What is ORC?

organic rankine cycle An Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) converts heat into electricity. This technology is based on the Rankine principle that has been successfully implemented in projects all over the world. The Organic Rankine Cycle is a thermodynamic process where heat is converted into power, which drives a turbine. A working  fluid is vaporised and expanded in a vapour turbine that drives a generator, which then produces electricity. The working fluid is an organic fluid with a boiling point lower than water and enables heat recovery from low temperature sources.

Applications of ORC

ORC technology is particularly suitable for every organisation that disposes of residual heat of at least 90°C from their production processes. Upgrade Energy ORC systems can produce electricity from a range of sources:
